A friend of mine has a laptop and only about a week ago his mouse pointer started going berserk. You would boot the machine and it would be ok and shortly after it would just start going off to the side of the screen and become uncontrollable.
We tried everything from uninstalling drivers and reinstalling which worked ok for a couple of minutes. We ran live version of Linux but it still happened, we ran anti virus thinking it was some sort of malware, and we googled until our eyes were red raw looking for others who may have solved the crazy mouse.
Eventually we ran out of ideas and just sat back pondering, occassionally trying again with drivers, looking, searching for something, anything that may help. What we did notice from others who had posted what appeared to be a similar issue was that it was a common thing with Dell Laptops, but still we couldn’t find the problem.
Then whilst trying to move the mouse again we found it we pushed the little stick that is standard with many laptops as part of the keyboard hard top-right we could stabilse the mouse. Then we remember that we could disable the stick option in the mouse hardware settings so that’s what we did, and sure enough it fixed the crazy mouse.
Not sure why the stick in the keyboard started going whacky but since my mate had never really used it anyway we didn’t really care. So is your Dell suffering the crazy mouse syndrome?

well i have a hp comp and im having that issue with a standard two button mouse…any ideas? its driving me nuts!!!
Could be a corrupted driver but you would need to do some testing and see what works for you. I know in our case we tried alot of things and spent hours trying to find out what was causing the problem. Wish I could help but without seeing the machine it would be hard for me to say exactly why your having problems.
